Sing with us
About Membership
The Montpelier Community Gospel Choir combines soul, jazz, blues, and original and traditional gospel music to produce an exuberant sound. We sing! We clap! We shout! We play! We laugh! Sometimes we cry. All of you is welcomed.
ENROLLMENT
Enrollment is simple. During the Open Enrollment period, please come to a rehearsal, and our choir administrator will register you, grant access to our membership portal with choir music and updates, and information on membership dues. The enrollment period closes by the end of November for the Black History Month Concert and in April for the Juneteenth Concert.
REHEARSALS
Our Monday evening rehearsals for the Black History Month Concert are from October 2024 to February 2025, and for our Juneteenth Concert from March to June 2025.
Currently, we are rehearsing in person and masking is strongly encouraged especially during surges. Our policy is simply that if you are symptomatic or have recently been exposed, please attend virtually and return when you are clear. And yes, we do have virtual options for every rehearsal through our YouTube channel, but only for those who are ill.
MEMBERSHIP DUES
Dues are $60 for Acapella Choir Members and $100 for Mass Choir Members per concert. Dues are essential to the choir as they help cover the production costs of all of our concerts including the fair compensation of MCGC staff, directors, musicians, sound engineers, venue, music licensing, etc. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization made possible by the generosity of its members and friends. We are also an inclusive community choir, and waivers are granted.

Our Choirs
The Mass Choir
The Mass Choir is our largest choir and will perform two sets of concerts this season- two performances of the Black History Month Concert in February and one epic performance of the Juneteenth Concert in June.
While some members have been professionally trained, the choir is largely comprised of everyday people who share a love for inspiring and uplifting themselves and others through gospel music.
All are welcome in this choir. Some will learn their music by rote, some through reading the music provided, and others have their creative ways. Note: gospel music invites us to improvisation, being in the moment, and surrender. In this spirit, we will grow, we will stretch, sit with our discomfort, and make a joyful noise together.
Rehearsals:
Mondays 7:00 - 8:30 PM
Unitarian Church of Montpelier- Vestry
130 Main Street
The Acapella Choir
The Acapella Choir is a subset of the Montpelier Community Gospel Choir. This group performs a cappella music in the African American tradition along with original and inspirational music.
While there is currently no audition process for the Acapella choir, the ability to read music is highly recommended. Membership is by director's permission.
The choir performs more often, a bit more widely, and requires flexibility and dedication. This season, the choir will perform two solo concerts, appearances during services at the Unitarian Church of Montpelier, and will open our Black History Month and Juneteenth Concerts.
Contact Executive Director, Rev. Verdis LeVar Robinson with inquiries.
